Description

Montie Gear Knife is ultra-lightweight and won't slow you down on the trail. Mount this knife on your pack sholder strap or belt for quick access the moment you need it. The BladeTech clip allows you to rotate the angle of the knife relative to you belt a full 360 degrees in 45 degree increments. This means that the knife can easily be set up for left hand or right hand use.

The Montie Gear knife is easily removed from the aluminum holster by pushing on the stainless steel release with your thumb. The knife can easily be removed from the sheath, even with gloves on. This makes for a versatile knife that is at home anywhere from the shoulder strap of your backpack to your purse (for the ladies). The aluminum sheath is very distinctive with a one handed release of the locking mechanism allowing for very quick access using only one hand.

The blade is designed to be tough, hold a great edge and replaceable. If you break a blade, we have paid service where you ship the knife back to Montie Design and we can replace the broken blade and ship it back to you. This level of serviceability is critical in an ultra-lightweight blade.

Each blade is hand sharpened and ready for use. The blade is made from CPM 3-V steel for very high performance. Winkler Knives in Boone produces the blades for us. Winkler Knives is a very respected knife maker that provides many knives to special forces operators. We are proud to have them as part of the team that produces this knife. We also offer a sharpening service.

The frame is water jet cut from aluminum for strength, and anodized or powder coated for durability and quality surface finish. Paracord with a 550lb breaking strength is used to wrap the knife handle. PEM nuts are installed to allow for superb thread contacts with the stainless steel screws, as well as providing a pain-free process of replacing the blade without worry of stripping the threads. This allows us to proudly claim that the Montie Gear Ultralight Knife is Heirloom Quality, Troublesome Gap Tough and Made in America.

Blade Philosophy

The blade is designed to be easy-to-sharpen and replaceable. We put a lot of engineering and finite element analysis into designing a blade that flexed uniformly along its length rather than breaking. We also chose a steel and created a blade configuration that is very easy to sharpen with only basic tools. We felt like this was critical for a blade that might be used in a survival situation.

Blade Replacement

If you do manage to break a blade, we have paid service where you ship the knife back to Montie Design and we can replace the broken blade and ship it back to you. This level of serviceability is critical in an ultra-lightweight blade.

Blade Sharpening Info

Each blade is hand sharpened and ready for use. The design of the blade and the steel we chose makes it very easy to sharpen the blade. We also offer a sharpening service.

Care and Maintenance

All blades are shipped with a film of CRC Corrosion Inhibitor, SP-350. The Chrome Vanadium steel will develop a patina over time (like the knife you had growing up or your grandfather's pocket knife).

Keep your knife looking like new by occasionally spraying your knife blade with a light oil or a product similar to the corrosion inhibitor above. Any light oil similar to the oil used on the exterior of rifles or handguns will help keep your knife looking like new.

Please remember to wipe down your knife with a thin film of oil every few months (depending on usage) to protect the blade.

About the Designer

Nicholas Alexander Pennington received his undergraduate degree in Industrial Design from North Carolina State University in May 2013. Nicholas has a bold, determined attitude and perspective on the design process. This unique perspective and his passion for unique products led him to become a finalist in the 2011 Montie Design Contest, and an intern for Montie Design during the summer of 2011. Pennington specializes in 3D modeling, sculptures, and dynamic products such as knives, military and defense products, and tools.
