Paracord

Paracord, also called parachute cord or 550 cord, is a lightweight nylon kernmantle rope originally used in the suspension lines of US parachutes during World War II.  This type of nylon cord is available in a wide variety of colors and lengths.  Hikers, survivalists, and military personnel use paracord for a wide variety of reasons due to its unique strength and composition.  For anyone spending any amount of time in the wilderness, paracord is one item you should never be without.  Paracord is one item that should be in everyone's go bag.
